Letter from the Board Chair
I am looking forward to my second term of serving as Board Chair of the Houston East End Chamber of Commerce for 2024-25. I have been on the Board of Directors since 2016 and have watched it serve businesses and more importantly the people who live and work here in the East End. All our events are well received and the opportunity for networking gives us all one more reason to look forward to the many exciting events coming this year. Please visit the chamber website to stay up to date on the upcoming events. The annual golf tournament is held at Gus Wortham Golf Course here in the East End and it is my favorite event each year. I have served as the golf tournament co-chair in the past and this year it is an honor to be one of the recognized honorees. Since I attend most of the signature events, I am able to see just how much work it takes to run a successful event, and I am really proud of what the staff has been able to achieve.
The diverse make up of our board which includes maritime industry, banks, restaurants, small and large businesses as well as representatives of many elected officials allow us to have a dynamic team who are well equipped to help make the East End the place to live and work in Houston.
We are committed to continuing to promote and sustain business growth here in the east end and am really pleased to see so many new businesses coming to the east end and joining our chamber. The opportunities, as we move forward, are unlimited and I know the Chamber will be proactive in helping our members take advantage of the future. One of the key ingredients for our future growth is a well-educated workforce and we will be working to enhance our partnerships with our educational board members and growing our scholarship program.
The East End has a rich history and is known for its diversity, great food, small family businesses, thriving industry of Port Houston and our many refineries. It is the place to be. My employer is H-E-B which we believe stands for Here Everything is Better. I think that phrase can equally well describe the future of the East End because our Chamber will be working along with all our members to make sure it’s better. If you are not yet a member, we hope you will join us because I am convinced our future is bright.
