Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders Today

The East End Youth Leadership Program is a 3-year, Employability Skill & Career Exploration Program designed to meet the needs of employers by empowering students with the critical skills necessary to excel in the workforce while providing hands-on, career discovery.

This school year, 25 10th-grade students from Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success (RYSS) have been selected to participate in four (4) Field Trips to businesses in the East End and four (4) Lunch & Learn sessions focused on the workability skills identified by our East End Works Committee and RYSS faculty.

YEAR 1 - 10th Grade

  • Four (4) Career Exploration Field Trips to East End Businesses showcasing the vast opportunities available in the Houston & Port Region
  • Four (4) Lunch and Learn Sessions to teach the workability skills employers are looking for
  • End of Year Celebration and Mock Interviews to test the skills learned throughout the program

YEAR 2 - 11th Grade

  • The Chamber will share opportunities for career fairs, leadership conferences, training opportunities, and career readiness programs throughout the school year to help to connect students with paid summer internships with local organizations.

YEAR 3 - 12th Grade

  • The Chamber will continue to provide career resources and information to students regarding local apprenticeship and scholarship programs.
  • The Chamber will also help to connect and leverage the skills and contacts made throughout the program to secure apprenticeships, scholarships for post-graduation and paid training.
  • Graduates will be encouraged to remain engaged with the program as guest speakers, aiding in the recruitment of future participants.
