Brennan High School Student Wins $1000 Scholarship for VIP Staffing Fiesta Medal Design Contest
VIP Staffing is excited to announce the first-place winner of their inaugural Fiesta medal design contest, Brennan High School Student, Camaryn Mantanana. VIP Staffing surprised Mantanana with the good news during class where she was awarded the $1000 scholarship. The winning design, a heart-shaped medal with hands holding the world above a San Antonio skyline, was judged by a panel of VIP Staffing customers who voted for their favorite designs. Scores were based on the contest design criteria
of incorporating VIP Staffing’s mission and core value statements, following certain specifications and showcasing the VIP Staffing logo.
“I spent weeks on my art project for the competition, and so I thought I would give submitting my design a shot. Winning was a huge surprise to me - he prize means the world to me because now I can start planning for my future,” stated scholarship winner Mantanana.
Additionally, second and third-place winners were awarded via surprise appearances at school. Second-place winner, Brandi Calderon of Breckenridge High School received a $300 scholarship, and third-place winner, Aili Edith Ortega from Taft High School received a $200 scholarship.
“I put a lot of hard work into my design and am proud of what I submitted. Thank you for the opportunity,” said Calderon
“When I heard about the contest, I immediately started making up ideas. With a little research of the company, it helped me to decide what the concept of the medal was going to be. I knew I wanted to show all the careers in the world to be represented in the piece. It took a lot of editing to finally get to the piece I was happy with,” added Ortega.
“VIP Staffing, like most of San Antonio, loves Fiesta. This year we decided to utilize the unique talents of the students in our community and create something memorable. We could not be more excited about the volume of responses we received, and we could not be prouder of the winners. Any opportunity to give back to the community where we live and serve is a bonus,” said Executive Vice President, Andrew Himoff.
The scholarship contest was open to any Bexar County high school student and was facilitated through art, technology and technical departments within the high schools. The contest was such a success, VIP Staffing plans to continue this program next year.
