Highlighting the Power of Women and their Businesses in Houston’s East End

Texas is a big state, that's no secret. What is surprising is that there are over 1 million women-owned businesses across Texas, and most of those businesses are right here in Houston.

With such immense numbers of women-led businesses, there still exists a small discrepancy between men and women that own businesses in Houston.

The city, with our diverse community, is one of the Top 10 cities in the United States for women-owned start-ups. Data derived from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that 26.6 percent of our area's 10,000 plus business start-ups are owned by women. Compared to other cities around the nation, this places Houston at number 17. In terms of the big picture, Houston is also placed highly at Number 7 for the number of women-owned businesses compared to other cities across the nation.

Our area is rich with diversity and opportunity. The success of women-owned businesses can be attributed to our area's business climate, the number of existing female-owned companies, along with economic health, and safety for women in our area.

Many women-owned businesses can be found in diverse industries around Houston. Most notably, the top sectors for women-owned companies are Professional, Industrial, Technical Services, or Scientific.

Houston's East End Chamber of Commerce is proud to have distinct women-owned businesses as members of our chamber.

We have witnessed and helped businesses expand beyond our region by helping business around the country with cash flow and maximization of profits.

There are also many other significant women-owned businesses that call the East End Chamber of Commerce home:
  • East End Transfer and Storage - owned by April Surratt. April has led the way in making her business one of the elite businesses in Houston. Being a third-generation mover, she worked her way to being president of the company in 1999.
  • Tout Suite - co-owned and operated by Sandy Tran, who leads the way for females in entrepreneurship, created a company emphasizing the pleasures of world travel through fine food, baked treats, and delicious world-renowned coffees.
The East End Chamber of Commerce is proud of our heritage for we believe the East End is the backbone of the Houston area. We support local business by providing business expansion opportunities by connecting small business to large enterprises.

The EECOC offers business opportunities, educational events, community gatherings to support our neighborhoods, and more. We believe in our community and do everything we can to grow
a healthy economy through the support of local businesses.
