Houston, February 16 – CenterPoint Energy broke ground today to build a new 122,000 square-foot facility where more than 225 natural gas employees will work in Houston’s East End, contributing to the ongoing revitalization of the community east of downtown Houston.
The 10-acre Navigation Facility will house training, warehousing, construction and maintenance activities, shop and operations that will serve all of CenterPoint Energy’s six-state natural gas service territory. In addition, the facility will be home to the company’s Mobile Energy Solutions, a portable, temporary natural gas supply available for pipeline integrity testing or emergency outages.
“This new facility will combine natural gas operations from three of our existing facilities,” said Tracy Bridge, president of Gas Distribution Operations. “We are looking forward to enhancing our efficiency and productivity at a strategically located facility, while also solidifying CenterPoint Energy’s investment in Houston’s East End.”
CenterPoint Energy chose 6363 Navigation for its new facility because of its location inside the loop, which is central to the company’s Houston-area natural gas operations.
CenterPoint Energy hired D E Harvey Builders to construct the new Navigation Facility designed by PGAL Architects. CenterPoint Energy plans on moving to its new location during the fourth quarter of 2012.
