TPC Group Awards $42,000 in Academic Scholarships to Chavez High School Graduates
HOUSTON (Monday, July 25, 2011) – TPC Group recently announced the recipients of this year’s Mark of Excellence Scholarship awards. Mr. Salvador Castillo and Mr. Jonathan McAdams, graduates of Chavez High School, in the Houston Independent School District, will each receive a four-year, $20,000 scholarship.
In addition, the Company awarded a $2,000 scholarship to Ms. Irma Zavaleta. Irma received this award in recognition of her successful completion of the Genesys Works internship program with the Company. Each year TPC Group partners with Genesys Works, a program that offers inner-city high school students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while allowing them to apply the engineering skills and knowledge learned in the classroom.
Salvador Castillo will be attending the University of Houston in the fall to pursue a degree in engineering. Jonathan McAdams plans to attend Texas Tech University in the fall and will be pursuing a degree in computer science engineering. Irma Zavaleta will be attending San Jacinto College – North in the fall to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
The Mark of Excellence Scholarship Program is designed to recognize seniors who plan to pursue degrees in engineering, math, science or education. The Company’s scholarship programs build on a solid foundation of community involvement and support of programs that seek to improve and promote educational advancement, environmental responsibility and the overall sustainability of the community.
Since 2006, TPC Group has awarded more than $384,000 in academic scholarships to graduating high school seniors in southeast Texas.
